Principal's Weekly Newsletter

September 2nd, 2008

Dear Parent,

Our first week of school was great.  Thank you for your continued support.

STA went through an accreditation in the Spring of 2008.  Accreditation is a process where a school conducts a self-study to look at the whole school.  An outside team visits the school to be sure the school is meeting all the criteria necessary to be deemed an excellent school.  An accreditation term is given of anywhere from one year to a full six years.  STA was awarded the highest possible rating of a full six years.  We are very proud of our shool and what we offer your student.

The Sports Committee meets tonight, September 2nd, at 7:00 p.m. in the faculty room.

Friday, September 5th, will be our first Friday Mass at 8:30 a.m.  You are welcome to attend.

Friday, September 5th, at 1:05 p.m. there will be the World’s Finest Chocolate Rally.

Wednesday, September 10th, will be Back-to-School Night for all classes.  We will begin the evening by meeting in the auditorium promptly at 7:00 p.m.  After introductions, parents of  K - 5th grade parents will proceed to the classrooms and 6th, 7th and 8th grade parents will remain in the auditorium.  By the end of your grade level meeting, you should have a thorough understanding of what awaits your student for the entire school year.  The evening will end at 8:30 p.m.

This is a reminder for all to sign up for the e-Scrip program. This is a mandatory fundraiser for all St. Thomas the Apostle families.

The first PTG meeting will be on Tuesday, September 16th, at 7:00 pm.

The Chinese School is accepting applications.  If you would like your child to attend, our office has the necessary forms.

On Wednesday, September 16th, there will be an 8th grade high school informational night beginning at 6:30 p.m.  At this meeting, we will discuss high schools and the application process.  It is essential that one member of each 8th grade family attend.

6th and 7th grade parents are also welcome to attend.

On September 10th, the 5th grade will have a 90 minute Science presentation entitled “Save the Bay”.

Traffic after school and on minimum days is hectic.  If you’re picking up your child, please do not leave your car or block the driveways of our neighbors.  You may need to circle the block a time or two to avoid double parking.  Only the children being retrieved by auto will be standing at the 39th Avenue gate.  In the morning, whenever possible, pull up to the beginning of the white line on the curb.

Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Judith A. Borelli

Principal
