Principal's Weekly Newsletter

March 9th, 2010

Dear Parent,

Reminder: Registration Fee for the 2010-2011 school year of $80.00 per student is due on Wednesday, March 17th.

The PTG meeting is tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Child care will be provided.

Patron Saint Day, Friday, March 12th, is a school holiday.

Our choir will be participating at the Archdiocesan Choral Festival on Thursday, March 18th, from 8:45 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Riordan High School. You are invited to attend.

STA’s PTG is hosting a Chevy’s Night. It will be on Monday, March 22nd. The flyer is in the Tuesday envelope. It is a fun evening and I hope to see you there!

Spring pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 24th. All students will be taking their pictures and will have free dress that day. If you would like to have a sibling picture taken, please let me know. Sibling pictures will be taken between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m only.

As you begin planning for the summer, here are some opportunities for the children:

  • STA Summer School will be offered for five weeks from June 14th through July 16th.
  • STA Summer School 2 will begin July 19th and run through August 13th. It will be a four week program for K-4th grades. Summer School 2 is a result of parental request and we will need a minimum number of students for it to occur.
  • Kid’s Stock will be offering a summer camp at STA from July 19th through August 6th.
  • Chess camps will be offered at STA from July 19th through August 20th.  Information for Kid’s Stock and Chess will be coming soon.

Many of you have asked me about our scholarship programs for the next school year. STA will be offering a Boys & Girls Scholarship Program for those students presently in grades K – 8. Parents wishing to have their child be considered for this grant for the 2010-2011 school year must notify the school in writing prior to the cutoff date of April 12th . Applications received after April 12th  CANNOT be accepted.  Please check page 19 of the Parent & Student Handbook for requirements.

Next week, STA will begin our annual “Walk Through” Presentations. On Friday, March 19th, the 4th grade “Walk Through/California” begins at 9:00 am. On Friday, March 26th, the 6th grade “Walk Through/Ancient World” will be at 9:00 am and the 5th grade “Walk Through/American Revolution” begins at 12:15 pm. You are invited to attend.

Please mark your calendars for Saturday, April 17th, for the PTG sponsored Spring Gala. The committee desperately is seeking parents to support and participate in our biggest fundraising event of the year. We need hard items like gift baskets, gift certificates, homemade crafts, artwork, electronics, and new items that you can donate. Monetary donations are also welcome. It will be a fun night and great chance to get to know other parents and the school staff. The school and PTG appreciate your support.

In case of a fire or earthquake, St. Thomas the Apostle School has an emergency plan. As a whole school, we do conduct fire and earthquake drills. In case of an emergency, the whole staff knows the plan and can enforce it.

Please monitor the use of all electronic devices that your children use. We are beginning to observe some inappropriate language and actions be used.

Have a great week!!!!

Sincerely,

Judith A. Borelli

Principal
